Doris SELF Redford

It's with deep regret and sorrow that I write of the death of one of the nicest Self genealogist I've met. We never met face to face unfortunately, only by email and telephone. Our Self Family Newsletter group will definitely miss not only Doris Redford, we'll miss all the genealogy and help she's given us throughout the years. Her generosity and love of the Self group knew no bounds. She loved telling of the kid, Dan McCarthy, who contacted her about the Self surname. She asked him why the Self surname. If I remember correctly his answer was, "I don't know, just because". Doris SELF Redford was born May 14th, 1928 and died June 20th, 2006. To her family and friends who loved her the Self Family Newsletter group extends our deepest condolences. -- Doris Howard

MEMORIAL FOR DAN McCARTHY

We have received permission to place a plaque honoring Daniel McCarthy at the foot of the Robert Selfe memorial at the Yeocomico Episcopal Church in Virginia. We have also received permission to place a granite bench which will be engraved honoring Dan McCarthy at the new Harold Faith Memorial Park in Calhoun, Gordon Co, GA where he lived. The bench will be placed on the walking trail overlooking a lake in the park. Donations are needed to make these memorials a reality. Unauthorized Solicitation Notice

The Newsletter, through it's publication and the Self-Family@yahoo email list, allows all Self-Selfe-Selph researchers to stay in contact with one another and to share data without duplication of efforts.

The Self Family Newsletter has published over 1,600 pages of information on the Self family over the years, and currently averages around 375 active researchers per year. The Self Family Newsletter is on file in the Library of Congress as well as a multitude of other libraries.

This online forum is intended only to supplement our published newsletter. However portions of this site are gradually shifting to inter-active, whereas you, the researcher / descendant may add data directly.

FEDERATION OF GENEALOGICAL SOCIETIES - We are one of 550+ member genealogical organizations in the U.S. and Canada working together to help genealogists at all levels, help with exhibitors and speakers, and provide access to quality material.

THE THELMA NOLEN CORNFELD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD - A program of the Self Family Newsletter group that offers scholarships in History or Genealogy to Self Family descendants. Monies for this scholarship program is raised by: donations from the membership, two test promotions on this web page, fund raising events like our Coffee Mug sales, and our Quilt Auction.
