The Official Website for the Self, Selfe, Selph families of the World
On 10 April, 1999, the second gathering of Self researchers happened in Gadsden. Alabama at the Western Sizzlin' Steak House. This years attendees came from GA., AL., FL., TX., and CA.
Those attending were: Doris Howard, Thomas Self, Mickey Self, Yvonne Self, Bryce Self, Dan McCarthy, Cheryl McCarthy, Kim Self Hughes, Peggy McLemore, Cliff Putnam, Jan Putnam, Dennis H. Self, Nona Self Timmons, Harlis Self, Emma Self, Elvin White, Walter L. Jones, George Franklin Self Jr., Weda Self, Loretta Self, Heather Self, Brenda Mozley Burton, Elois Medlin, Zeke Medlin, Maurice Wayne Goodwin, Janece Goodwin, Sue Collins, Marjorie Spurgeon, Herman "Bob" Self, Gwen Self, Mona Herrin, Debbie Bronsteter, Don Bronsteter.
Thirteen door prizes; furnished by North Georgia Truss & A-1 Supply, both of Cartersville, GA., Dan-D Development of Calhoun, GA., the Self Family Newsletter, and Western Sizzlin' Steak House of Gadsden, AL. were given out.
At the first Gathering, we had a throng of 9, and we were well pleased, as we were all able to chat in one / two general areas. This year, with 37, was a much different story as we were everywhere. The next Gathering will have a very well pre-planned agenda, seating etc., with your help, as many said they knew of several more researchers to bring next year. This years crowd had 42 registered, but at the last minute we found ourselves up against some family sickness, a funeral, a wedding, and a genealogical swap meet; then throw in a half a dozen unexpected guests, and low and behold - we have 37. Good results, dang good.
A consensus was reached that this event should continue on a once a year basis.
How many of us benefited, either personally or genealogically, has to be near 100% for all had a good time and gained a lot of new friends. The Self family, no matter which branch you are from, is full of really neat people. I personally failed to spend enough quality time with anyone this year due to the size of the crowd. (maybe that's why everyone was so happy)
Would like to receive some input and possible volunteers from this years attendees, for the ideas for "Self 2000" will make the Gathering look pale by comparison.
Our "volunteer" impromptu photographer, Doris Howard managed a fine collection of photos of the group. Doris also made a video recording of portions of the get-together.
